It was an absolute treat,
Just spent a beautiful two days at the Flaming Squirrel guest house (wish we could have stayed longer!). It was an absolute treat, the guest house is equipped with everything you need to be super comfortable. Awesome breakfast, beautiful views, lots of movies, super clean, VERY comfy bed-a perfect spot to relax after touring the wineries all day! Highly recommend 🙂
Thank you Cindy and Brad!
We spent a lovely weekend at the Flaming Squirrel!
We spent a lovely weekend at the Flaming Squirrel! We were so impressed by the clean and well stocked rooms as well as the scenery and attention to detail. Cindy was very attentive and helpful and thought of everything that a traveler may need or want. We would recommend this great “home away from home” to anyone. Next time we are going to this area, we will stay again. Thanks Cindy!
We really enjoyed our week long stay
We really enjoyed our week long stay at the Flaming Squirrel guest house! The kitchen had absolutely everything we could possibly need and more!! We really appreciated the extra touches of the conveniences that Cindy has there. Lots of choices for breakfast food too! We will definitely be back!
Great Stay!
I stayed at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House while on business in the area. What a spectacular out of the way place! The unit is very comfortable and clean with a view of the valley that is beyond belief. Cindy and Brad are extremely hospitable and friendly. The area offers countless opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and adventure. A must see only minutes away is the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory.
There is a unique story about how the Ranch got the name Flaming Squirrel. The owners even have an actual flaming squirrel.
I will stay here again in the future.
AWESOME!
My husband and I were up in Oliver for 4 days and The Flaming Squirrel Gust House was fabulous! Brand Spanking New and Very Private with a front deck to enjoy the rising sun and have your morning coffee…PLUS your very own patio with a Bar-B-Que. We’ve stayed at numerous places across Canada and the US and this one has the advantage of your own kitchen which cuts down considerably on dining out and associated costs! It is in the rural area yet just a 10 minutes scenic drive to See Ya Later Winery and 5 minutes to Dunham & Froese Wineries and Covert Farms and only 15 minutes to the center of town in Oliver for yet more wineries, fruit stands, movie theater, shopping, or just to get supplies so you can head back to the Guest House and unwind. We are now juggling around our holidays so we can head back again in July or August. Need to make our reservations soon as once word circulates about the Flaming Squirrel it is going to be booked solid! The owners Brad and Cindy are very accommodating and super friendly!
Beautiful!!
My husband and I really enjoyed our recent stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House!! The humming birds were bountiful and the accommodations very comfortable with all the amenities of home. It’s great to be able to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee on the deck in the morning before taking a trip to the local wineries. The owners, Brad and Cindy, made us feel like family and we look forward to a return trip in the fall for the Oliver Wine Festival.
Perfect and peaceful
We just enjoyed a 3 day mini-vacation with Cindy & Brad at Flaming Squirrel Guest House. The accommodations were exactly as listed and are private, tasteful, very comfortable and well stocked with anything you may need while away from home. The hosts have paid attention to all the little details that make a difference… lovely breakfast items for self catering, wine chilling in fridge on arrival, every kitchen gadget imaginable, even binoculars and birdwatching book, etc etc. The perfect spot for relaxing in the evening after touring the region’s wineries (the closest one, Fairview Cellars, is literally just down the road) plus you will be lulled to sleep by the symphony of frogs each night! Photo opportunities abound in the lovely landscape surrounding the Guest House. The town of Oliver is a short drive away for good grocery shopping and of course there are lots of roadside farm fruit and vegetable stands in season. And let’s not forget the fabulous and authentic Mexican taco stand on the outskirts of the south side of town. Always busy, but well worth the wait. Several of the wineries have beautiful view restaurants with excellent chefs (lunch is recommended for those on a budget) and most have picnic tables on the grounds should you feel like bringing your own and purchasing a glass (or bottle!) to accompany your meal. Cindy & Brad know the region well and were very congenial hosts. Lots of good written information/brochures provided in the suite. A great get away spot for renewing the spirits. We hope to be back next year.
Super stay at Flaming Squirrel!
I completely enjoyed my stay at Flaming Squirrel. I arrived late one rainy night and Cindy even agreed to meet me on the road then checked me in personally.
The loft style dwelling has literally all the comforts of home and more; cooler bag, beach towels, fresh fruit, breakfast foods, a/c, cable, fluffy bed and available yet not intrusive hosts!
The quiet country setting was a restful change from touristy wine country.
I have recommended this place to family and friends already! Thanks Cindy & Brad
Highly recommended!
This property is as advertised! Brad and Cindy are very accommodating and friendly. Very well equipped kitchen. Cindy has gone above and beyond with thoughtful touches and extras including breakfast items for self catering and wine chilling in fridge upon our arrival.Very quiet and restful country setting, yet very convenient for wine touring,we will stay here again.
Quiet & Relaxing!!
We completely enjoyed our recent stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House. The accommodations are not only beautiful, but fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and the most comfy bed we’ve slept in. We look forward to our next visit to the Okanagan and the Flaming Squirrel Guest House. Thanks Cindy & Brad.
Well-organized and peaceful!
Our recent week-long stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House was fantastic! It was a wonderfully peaceful setting and we enjoyed having a chilled bottle of wine waiting for us on our arrival. Cindy made much-appreciated efforts to cater to my gluten- and dairy- free diet as well in her selection of breakfast items. We slept well in the very comfy bed with an efficient but quiet over-head fan. It was a great location from which to go cycling and hiking and we plan to be back next year!
Excellent
A beautiful, peaceful setting that is close to all the wineries of Oliver. The suite is extremely well appointed, comfortable and very clean. Terrific hospitality. Highly recommended.
Great weekend 2-5 Jul
We had a wonderful stay at the Flaming Squirrel Guest House. Our host was very accommodating. There were quite a few nice touches that really made us feel welcome. We have stayed here before and it is our go to place when traveling through the Okanagan and Oliver.
Excellent Stay
Lovely private mini house accommodation B and B fridge and pantry well stocked incl. your own BBQ patio and every possible utensil and comfort. Quiet location, family of quail, hummingbirds, squirrels, etc. excellent directions for any of your needs in Oliver. Guaranteed relaxing sleeps in queen bed or sofa. Bright, clean, good parking, even a dishwasher, large closet/storage. 10 out of 10 highly recommended for return visits family friends – superb.
best option in Oliver to relax and enjoy the surroundings
This review is a little late. But better late than never!
We stumbled upon this property because we had decided at the last second to take a wine tasting trip up to the Okanagan for the BC Day long weekend. And when I say last minute, I mean on the morning of our departure. This is the worst time to go to the Okanagan as it’s the busiest weekend of the year and we couldn’t find anything. Until we thankfully saw this property. We were lucky that this place was available for an excellent price. Cindy was very prompt with answering our query.
When we arrived, we were so happy that the property was the only place that had been available for us. Cindy certainly takes a lot of pride in the property, and it shows. I confirm that all of the previous reviews are correct-the place is immaculately clean, every convenience has been provided and thought of, extremely comfortable property (I couldn’t believe the quality of bedding provided), food is abundantly provided (breakfast and local fruits, even a bottle of rose), very quiet, remote and private, etc. The best way to describe the property is that it’s a quality guest house that you would be proud to provide to family and friends that visited you (and that you wanted to visit you).
Cindy is very responsive and is not intrusive at all. She is there when you need something, but disappears to give us privacy when our questions or needs were answered. The property is an adjunct to her residence. She is the best host one could ask for.
We experienced a bit of a hiccup with a malfunctioning smoke alarm in the middle of the night, but Cindy promptly remedied the issue the best she could and was very apologetic about it. At least we know it works! The only downside to the property (and I’m really looking for a reason) is that it’s a bit far from the wineries we had wanted to visit. However, having said this, it’s only a 10-15 minute drive in to the town of Oliver, and it’s really not that far at all.
If this place is available and you want to be in Oliver, look no further and book it ASAP!
Wonderful.
A most wonderful place to be, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will return as often as we can. The surroundings are beautiful and serene.
Always top notch! An awesome retreat.
Since my first comment in April 2014 my wife and I have stayed at the Flaming Squirrel on at least five occasions. Cindy and Brad have continued to deliver the most well organized and hospitable service we have encountered! The suite is always well provisioned and spotlessly clean. The location is peaceful and conveniently situated to give you a privacy yet near enough to take advantage of the endless touring opportunities (wineries, hiking trails, Skaha lake beaches). We will continue to escape the city to the Flaming Squirrel as it provides a perfect opportunity for adventure and rest.
Great Place for a Getaway, Peaceful
This place is fantastic! Very clean accommodation, relaxing, quiet, restful, you have your privacy and although its a few minutes from the town of Oliver it’s an easy drive in and back, we spent a couple of days doing winery tastings and a couple of days exploring the area (Ripley & Madden Lake, Fairview road, Okanagan Falls, Vaseux Lake, hiking Oliver Mountain area), highly recommend this place – if we go back we’d book it if it’s available, great for a couple getaway, girl getaway or just a getaway for one. Great view from the deck and front room, kitchen area was well stocked with cooking supplies, never did get to use the BBQ although it was available to us, just didn’t have enough time. 5/5
Just as wonderful the 2nd time around!
We finally got back to Flaming Squirrel almost 2 years after our first fantastic stay and it did not disappoint. Cindy & Brad are wonderful and friendly hosts, the apartment is spotlessly clean and well stocked, and the view from the balcony still stunning. It truly is a peaceful haven and a great place to recharge the batteries. It is conveniently located close to several wineries, other attractions in the area, and to our favorite taco truck this side of Mexico on the main highway into Oliver. Another great stay! We have yet to use the BBQ so a third visit is in order sometime in the future. Kudos to Cindy & Brad for making Flaming Squirrel such a special place.
Excellent
One of the best accommodations we have stayed in. Very quiet and well located. Property is a quick drive to Oliver. The unit was well stocked with kitchen supplies and several food items such as milk, eggs, juice, bread, etc. Cindy made us feel very welcome and took care of any of our needs. We will definitely return in the future.
Excellent Accommodations
We just spent 4 nights at the Flaming Squirrel, and were extremely pleased with everything! It was spotlessly clean, well furnished, had a super comfy bed (with good sheets), the kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly need to prepare meals, plus there was a very nice selection of edibles … eggs, bread, fruit, milk, etc. The very quiet location suited us perfectly, and it was only a short drive to Oliver and the surrounding wineries. Cindy was an excellent host, and we felt comfortable immediately. We will make the Flaming Squirrel our go-to accommodations for the southern Okanagan!
Wildlife in the morning and wine in the afternoon
My wife and I stayed at the Flaming Squirrel for a few days in July. The weather was uncooperative, but Brad and Cindy were great.
Every morning we watched deer out of the kitchen window while we prepared breakfast. Cindy was even able to provide gluten free options to accommodate my wife’s sensitivities.
Then it was a short drive to any of the wineries. Brad and Cindy can give you the rundown on most places in Oliver, from family-friendly (kids get their own juice and bread and friendly dogs to play with) to absolute overboard posh-sommelier-speak (which can be entertaining if that’s what you like).
The guest-house is a complete stand-alone apartment. It has everything, including a great view of the valley.
Full disclosure: I worked with Brad for several years in the Lower Mainland. That entire time, he was talking about finding a nice place out of the city. He definitely found a great place. And if you go, ask him how the guest house got its name. He loves (sort of) telling the story.
