Our Top 10 Oliver Recommendations

Here are our favorite things to see and do in Oliver.
Some are well known and some are not so well known. Have a look around as we have included photos, videos, information and links.
They are in no particular order.

1. Come for the Wine!

Red, White, or Rose? 

No matter your preference, you will be able to find something to please your palate at one of the local wineries in or around Oliver.  Each winery has a unique tasting room and many offer outdoor patios with panoramic views with tiny bites, food pairings or full meals.        Take a wine tour and leave the driving to someone else so you can  safely sip and savor the local award winning wines !

2. Festival of the Grape

This family friendly annual event should not be missed! Over 50 wineries participate and all are sampling their signature wines.  With live music, a fun grape stomp competition and a variety of food and snacks available, a kids zone and local artisans displaying their crafts- there is truly something for everyone!

3. Food

From casual family friendly restaurants, cafes and bistros to fancy fine dining in the Sonora Room at the Burrowing Owl Winery or at the Miradoro restaurant at Tin Horn Creek winery, there is bound to be something for everyone in or around Oliver.  If you enjoy a more relaxed (and very affordable) dining experience head to Terrafina at Hester Creek Winery  or the Masala Bistro at Kismet Winery and enjoy their delicious creations!  Other local favorites are:  Auntie Ag’s Fish and Chips for lunch and Crucetti’s for a big hearty breakfast!   


4. Challenge Yourself & Get Moving!

Bring your bike or your comfortable walking shoes and  check out the numerous hiking and cycling routes suitable for all experience levels.  Explore the famous Kettle Valley Rail Trail and if you like to challenge yourself-sign up for a Triathlon. Half-Iron, or a Gran Fondo competition- all of which are held in and around the Oliver area.  Or just come out and cheer on the competitors and enjoy the scenery!

5. Half Corked Marathon

Winner of the 2017 Canadian Tourism Awards Event of the Year! 

The Half Corked Marathon has become one of the most highly anticipated events in Canada. This race is all about having fun.  If you are looking to set a record, this probably isn’t the event for you. Event of the Year

6. Freakin Farmer

A fun task oriented obstacle course designed to mimic the many arduous tasks that farm hands had to undertake daily to coax the crops to grow in the dry blistering heat of Canada’s only desert. 

7. Visit Covert Farms

Pick your own organic fruit and vegetables and  enjoy a bistro style lunch with a glass of wine at Covert Farms  –  the gateway to the McIntyre Bluff Summit Hike  which offers spectacular views of the valley between Vaseux Lake and Osoyoos!

8. Experience a Craft Distillery

Gin, Vodka and Whiskey made right here in the South Okanagan.  Check out the Dubh Glass distillery!

9. Visit Tickleberry's

Known world wide for their 64 flavors of homemade ice cream, waffle cones, kettle corn, fudge and chocolate coated dried berries- a visit to Tickleberry’s needs to be on your South Okanagan bucket list!  Pick your flavor(s) and wander through the shop which is full of unique gift items. 

10. Float the Channel in Penticton

Grab your floaty, some sunscreen and a beverage or two and head on down to the Penticton Channel waterway. Depending on the water flow- the channel trip between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.  Swim with the ducks, paddle your floaty or just drift with the current and soak up some warm Okanagan sun!.
